About Patrick Kurtz

Patrick Kurtz is a private investigator, criminologist, author, editor, publisher and researcher. He lives with his wife, Maya Grünschloß, and their two children, Ian and Enlil, alternating between Germany, Barcelona (Spain) and the Isle of Skye (Scotland).

A native “Römer” and grandson of the Central German local historian Hilmar Römer, Patrick Kurtz studied Provincial Roman Archaeology, Psychology, Comparative Literature and German Studies at the Universities of Oxford, Leipzig, Marburg and Hagen. In addition to editing Aidan Johnstone’s memoirs under the title Livingstones Mahnung, he published the academic volume Von Ovid, Grass und Tintagel Castle – Wissenschaftliche und Essayistische Ausflüge in die Europäische Literatur in 2012.

Furthermore, Patrick Kurtz has pursued studies of varying intensity in subjects such as prehistory; religion and mythology; the origin, development and nature of the universe, of life (with a focus on biochemistry, particularly the DNA molecule) and of consciousness; philosophy; police violence; climate change; as well as democracy, demagoguery and disinformation in the 21st century. He consistently shows interest in both established academic scholarship and alternative scientific approaches, while also looking beyond a purely Western perspective. Among his additional interests and passions are music (he is a multi-instrumentalist), Rishi Yoga, scuba diving (PADI certified), and various forms of athletic activity.

Out of personal interest and a natural inclination towards combination, deduction and analysis, Patrick Kurtz completed professional training as a private investigator in 2012/13 and has been working commercially as an IHK-certified detective specialist since graduation. His particular academic and investigative focus lies in criminology, applying insights from human ethology.

His further qualifications in the field of investigation and security include the IHK certificate of competence pursuant to § 34a of the German Trade Regulation Act, the commercial firearms proficiency examination pursuant to § 7 of the German Weapons Act, certification in life-saving emergency measures and defibrillator instruction, qualification as an intervention specialist according to VdS standards, and even certification as a lift attendant pursuant to TRBS 3121.

Languages: German, English and Spanish (fluent in conversation), as well as varying degrees of basic vocabulary and conversational proficiency in Italian, French, Catalan and Greek. Patrick Kurtz also holds the Latinum and is familiar with the Hebrew alphabet.

Patrick Kurtz is regularly consulted as an expert by television, radio and print media as well as other institutions, including the University of Potsdam as an adviser within a research project, and – frequently on multiple occasions – by Sat.1, RTL, ZDF, BBC Worldwide, Westdeutscher Rundfunk Radio, Galileo (ProSieben), Der Tagesspiegel, BILD, Mitteldeutscher Rundfunk Television and Radio (including Figaro), Norddeutscher Rundfunk Television, Der Spiegel, VICE Magazine, Watson (Switzerland), and many others, as well as serving as a “maxperte™” for the former streaming service maxdome.

Since 2016, he has been a continuous and committed supporter of the Neven Subotic Stiftung.
